The Nebraska football team has dismissed running back Maurice Washington from the program, the school confirmed to Paste BN Sports on Friday.

Washington, a sophomore, is expected to enter the NCAA's transfer portal soon, per Nebraska.

Washington has faced a child pornography charge in his native California since last February, when he was accused of allegedly sending a sexually explicit video to his former girlfriend in March 2018. The preliminary hearing for that case is scheduled for Jan. 10, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

In June, Washington was cited by university police for suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. Coach Scott Frost gave Washington a one-half suspension, and the back appeared in the second half of the season opener against South Alabama on Aug. 31.

Washington appeared in seven games last season but faced additional disciplinary action from the team for unrelated reasons and was suspended for the first half of the Northwestern game, according to the Lincoln Journal-Star. He last appeared against Minnesota, and on Oct. 21, Frost told reporters Washington was no longer with the team and did not set a timetable for his return.

"There are certain standards we ask our players to uphold," Frost said at the time. "When those standards aren't upheld, it doesn't matter who it is. They aren't going to be part of our plans that week or potentially longer."

Asked about Washington during his media availability on National Signing Day on Dec. 19, Frost said he planned on meeting with Washington the next day "and try to come to a resolution," the World-Herald reported.

The resolution never materialized.

Washington finished his Huskers career with 1,136 total yards on 127 carries and 36 receptions over 18 games.
