One of Nebraska or Wisconsin will exit their Week 13 college football matchup with bowl eligibility.
The other will have its back against the wall heading into a pivotal final week still in need of a victory to reach that six-win bowl game threshold.
Nebraska (5-5, 2-5 Big Ten) hasn't achieved bowl eligibility since 2016, and is 0-8 in its last eight matchups that could result in earning that coveted sixth win of the season, dating back to the 2023 season. The Cornhuskers have to beat one of Wisconsin or Iowa to reach a bowl.
Meanwhile, the Badgers have struggled offensively throughout much of the 2024 season after losing starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to a season-ending injury in their early season loss to Alabama. They need to beat Nebraska or Minnesota to reach their second consecutive bowl appearance under second-year coach Luke Fickell, who was hired away from Cincinnati prior to the 2023 season.
Wisconsin is also playing without offensive coordinator Phil Longo, who was fired after its loss to No. 1 Oregon in Week 12. Longo will be replaced Saturday by a variety of offensive coaches, per Fickell.
