The 2024 college football season has reached Week 4, but that doesn't mean it's too early to examine how the race for the Heisman Trophy is shaping up.

Quarterbacks Cam Ward (Miami), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss) and Jalen Milroe (Alabama) are among the frontrunners but the sport has proven that nobody's chances of winning the award is guaranteed with a lot of football left to play.

There are nine quarterbacks listed as betting favorites, all of which play for teams ranked within the Top 12 of the US LBM Coaches Poll. Boise State's Ashton Jeanty serves as the top running back and is ranked 10th.

Week 4 college football predictions: Expert picks for every Top 25 game

Cam Ward is the favorite

Miami quarterback Cam Ward is currently the betting favorite to capture the sports' most prestigious trophy after the first three weeks of games. Ward (+450) has led the Hurricane to a 3-0 start with decisive victories against Florida, Florida A&M and Ball State.

Ward's first three games were all played in the state of Florida and will play the next two games in the state before traveling out West to play California on Oct. 5.

He's completed 65 of 89 pass attempts for 1,035 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception this season. He's rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.

Who else is near the top of the rankings?

With Ward listed as the favorite, Dart (+700) and Milroe (+700) are trailing right behind the Miami quarterback.

Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava (+800) and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (+900) round out the top five.

Arch Manning on the rise

Texas quarterback Arch Manning had served as the backup through the first three games for the Longhorns but will make his first start this week against Louisiana Monroe.

Quinn Ewers was the betting favorite at the beginning of Week 3 on BetMGM last week but wasn't listed among the top 40 as of Friday.

Ewers was injured during the game against UTSA last week, which provided Manning the opportunity to finish out the game in an impressive fashion.

Manning completed nine of 12 pass attempts for 223 yards and four touchdowns in the 56-7 victory. He also had three carries for 53 rushing yards and a touchdown.
