Central Michigan coach John Bonamego tells team he's cancer-free

The Central Michigan football team became bowl eligible Wednesday with a 27-14 win at Kent State, but today figures to be its most memorable and impactful day this week.

That's because the Chippewas' first-year head coach, John Bonamego, told his team today that he is cancer-free.

Bonamego joined Central Michigan (6-5) in February after two seasons as the Detroit Lions' special teams coordinator. Four months later, in June, he announced he was undergoing treatment for cancer in his left tonsil, and he underwent radiation treatments until Aug. 21.

He coached through it all, and this morning told his team he made it through.
