Heavy rains in Michigan have caused severe flooding in the streets of Kalamazoo, and the backed up water has spilled into Western Michigan football's Waldo Stadium.

WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids reported Thursday the rains that swept through the area have resulted in flooding and fallen trees on several major roads. The National Weather Service placed the Kalamazoo County under a flood advisory until 11:15 p.m., according to the report.

The impact on the Western Michigan campus was obvious. Ellen Bacca, meteorologist at WOOD-TV, shared a picture on social media showing the field inside the home stadium of the Broncos completely covered with a muddy water.

This is not the first time in recent memory that Waldo Stadium has flooded. In October 2017, the field flooded after another string of heavy thunderstorms on a football Saturday, causing the Broncos' home game against Akron to be postponed until 1 p.m. Sunday.

Waldo Stadium has been the home of Western Michigan football since 1939. The playing surface has been FieldTurf since 2006, according to WMU's athletic website.
