Prospective Oregon QB Vernon Adams' message on eve of math exam

Former Eastern Washington all-American Vernon Adams, who has been accepted at Oregon to compete as a graduate transfer quarterback this season, sent a message to fans and critics on Wednesday night hours before a math exam that would complete his undergraduate degree requirements.

In an Instagram post, Adams said, "I just want EVERYBODY to know.. I never wanted ANY of this attention on me, good or bad. I wish I could have passed my math class the first time. But everything happens for a reason, right?"

Adams passed for more than 10,438 yards and 110 touchdowns in three seasons at Eastern Washington, one of the powers of the Football Championship Subdivision, and has been dominant in two career appearances against Pac-12 teams. Oregon's coaching staff expected Adams to graduate in June and join his future teammates in offseason workouts. But Adams did not graduate in the spring, and though he has been living in Eugene, he has not been allowed to train with the Ducks.

Oregon opened practice Monday without Adams. He would be eligible to join the team upon passing the math class and completing his undergraduate degree requirements, but whether he can get up the speed quickly enough to supplant Jeff Lockie as the Ducks' starting quarterback is in question.

Oregon, ranked No. 5 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, opens the 2015 season on Sept. 5 vs. Adams' former team.
