Dakota Prukop to start at QB for Oregon in Week 1

For the second season in a row, Oregon will turn to an FCS transfer at quarterback.

Dakota Prukop, a transfer from Montana State, has earned the the starting nod for the Ducks' Week 1 game on Sept. 3 against UC-Davis. True freshman Justin Herbert was named his backup for Week 1. Redshirt freshman Travis Jonsen also was among the competitors to start.

Prukop threw for 3,025 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season at Montana State. He also rushed for 797 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Herbert, a local prospect out for Sheldon High School in Eugene, threw for 3,170 yards and 37 touchdowns as a senior last year. He won the backup job over redshirt freshman Travis Jonsen and freshman Terry Wilson, who had both played in Oregon's annual Spring Game.

Last year's starter was Vernon Adams, who transferred came to Eugene after an outstanding career at Eastern Washington.
