Washington defense eats up Stanford offensive line

SEATTLE – Film review at Stanford this weekend could have some uncomfortable moments.
Washington’s defense sacked Stanford quarterbacks six times in their first 29 snaps on Friday night, and the footage wasn’t pretty.
Huskies defensive end Joe Mathis accounted for two of them, in very different ways. The first came on a 4th-and-2 play for the Cardinal in Washington territory. It was a key play preceded by a timeout. But Stanford left tackle A.T. Hall apparently needed a little more time to get ready.
Mathis got the best of Hall again on a third-down play on Stanford’s next drive, dropping quarterback Ryan Burns for a 7-yard loss.
Maybe Mathis was actually being fair in picking on Hall. He had already done this to right tackle Casey Tucker earlier in the game.
Washington entered the game with 13 sacks in four games, 13th-most in the FBS. There’s no telling where it will rank after this game.
