Stanford's Christian McCaffrey announces decision to head to NFL

Stanford star running back Christian McCaffrey, last year's Heisman Trophy runner-up, announced his decision to forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL draft, where he is expected to go in the first few rounds.
After a dazzling sophomore season — one in which he broke Barry Sanders' NCAA record for single-season all-purpose yardage (3,864) — McCaffrey rushed for 1,603 yards and 13 touchdowns in his less-impressive junior campaign.
A triple-threat, McCaffrey's NFL scouting evaluation will likely examine his ability as a receiver and kickoff returner on top of his groundwork.
McCaffrey, the son of former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, said in his announcement that "there's nothing more I can put on film" in referencing his prolific college career.
"Since I was 6 years old, I've wanted to play in the NFL," he said in the statement. "It's been on every list of goals that I've ever written. Now, it's time to take that step. ....I talked to coach (David) Shaw about everything. He completely agreed. Really, it just made sense. The opportunity is right in front of me.
"Simply put, this is the best time to live out my dream."
