Auburn coach Gus Malzahn agrees to new 6-year contract
On the eve of the SEC Championship, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has agreed to a new six-year contract, the school announced.
Malzahn, whose team is contending for a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, will be paid $3.85 million in the first year of the new deal and receive a $250,000 raise each year, according to the school.
Malzahn, who became the Tigers' head coach Dec. 4, 2012 after a season as the head coach at Arkansas State, was paid $2.3 million per year in his initial five-year deal.
Auburn is 11-1 this season and won the SEC West championship last Saturday in the "Kick Six" game against archrival Alabama, a game decided on a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the final play.
Malzahn was Auburn's offensive coordinator from 2009-11, including during its 2010 national championship season.
