Alabama OL Alphonse Taylor cleared of DUI charge
Alabama offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor was acquitted on a charge of driving under the influence on Tuesday.
Taylor was charged with DUI and leaving the leaving the scene of an accident Tuscaloosa, Ala., on July 17. In a bench trail Tuesday, Tuscaloosa Municipal Judge Ricky McKinney ruled Taylor was not guilty on the DUI charge, The Tuscaloosa News reported.
“We are very happy with this ruling and hope he will now have the opportunity to move forward with his football career,” Taylor’s attorney, Jason Neff, said in a statement provided to Paste BN Sports.
Alabama coach Nick Saban suspended Taylor, who has continued to practice with the team, in the wake of the arrest. Alabama spokesperson Josh Maxson said Saban hasn't announced a change in Taylor's status with the team.
Taylor started each game for the Crimson Tide last season.
Neff said in an email that McKinney is expected to rule on the leaving the scene of the accident charge at a later date.
