Georgia QB Jacob Eason sprains knee ligament, won't play vs. Notre Dame
Quarterback Jacob Eason sprained a ligament in his left knee and won't play this week against Notre Dame, Georgia coach Kirby Smart announced Monday.
Eason was injured on a late hit in the first quarter of the Bulldogs' 31-10 victory Saturday against Appalachian State.
Smart said Eason will not need surgery: "He'll be back from it. He'll be back this year."
Freshman backup Jake Fromm led three first-half touchdown drives Saturday and finished 10-for-15 for 143 yards and a touchdown.
"He showed tremendous poise for a freshman," said wide receiver Javon Wims. "The situation wasn't too big for him."
The Bulldogs (1-0) face Notre Dame (1-0) on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
