Georgia wide receiver Lawrence Cager expected to miss SEC championship game against LSU

Lawrence Cager emerged into Georgia’s best wide receiver this season when injuries didn’t keep him off the field.
Now, the graduate transfer from Miami (Fla.) has sustained another just a week and a half before the SEC championship game.
Cager suffered an ankle injury in practice Wednesday, clouding his availability with Georgia’s most important games still to come.
The severity of the injury isn’t certain. Georgia has not commented and typically leaves it to coach Kirby Smart to address injuries. He was not available Wednesday and won’t be until after Saturday’s final regular season game at Georgia Tech.
In an Instagram post Friday, Cager appeared to indicate he would miss the game this weekend then the matchup against No. 1 LSU for the SEC championship and a likely College Football Playoff berth.
"I wish it didn’t come to an end like this and if I could go back in time to the beginning and do it again, there isn’t another school I would rather choose," the post read. "Thank you Dawg Nation for all the great moments this past year. My boys know that we going get that SEC Champ and I’m still with them even if I’m not on the field."
Cager didn’t play last week against Texas A&M as he continues to be bothered by shoulder and rib injuries.
Those injuries kept him out of two games and parts of two others, but he still leads the Bulldogs with 33 catches for 476 yards to go along with four touchdowns.
“Cager, he makes this offense better,” quarterback Jake Fromm has said. “He helps the game of everybody around here.”
Georgia’s offense has struggled down the stretch with Fromm completing less than 50 percent of his passes the last three games. Fromm threw for 279 yards in 24-17 win against Florida on Nov. 2 when Cager had 7 catches for 132 yards.
Georgia will have to rely even more on true freshmen George Pickens (32 catches for 457 yards and 5 touchdowns) and Dominick Blaylock (15 catches for 270 yards and 4 touchdowns) as well as junior Demetris Robertson (24 catches for 259 yards and 3 touchdowns) at wide receiver however long Cager is out.
