Athens school board begins process of renaming football stadium after LSU's Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow made sure to let the world know how much being from southeast Ohio meant to him during his Heisman speech less than a week ago.
The community is showing the LSU Tigers quarterback some love back in a big way.
At Thursday's Athens City School Board meeting, the board unanimously agreed to begin the process of renaming the Athens High School football stadium — Burrow's alma mater — Joe Burrow Stadium.
The renaming was the final motion board member Roger A. Brown introduced after 16 years in his role.
"When Joe Burrow was on the national stage giving his speech after receiving the Heisman, he chose not to speak about himself and his success but rather about our community and the challenges we face," the board said in a statement posted to Facebook.
After Burrow's speech, more than $450,000 was donated to local Athens charities, such as the Athens County Food Bank.
The Ohio State transfer has captured nearly every major award for a quarterback on top of the Heisman, including the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award.
"In recognition of Mr. Burrow’s accomplishments, the Athens City School District Board of Education does hereby direct the Superintendent and the Athens High School Administration to take such actions as are necessary to name the Athens High School Football Stadium the Joe Burrow Stadium," the statement read.
Burrow can keep his magical year rolling when No. 1 LSU takes on No. 4 Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl next Saturday.
Two more wins and LSU fans may be clamoring to name Death Valley after Burrow, too.
