OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss senior edge rusher Sam Williams has been charged with sexual battery. He is suspended from all team activities, according to a statement from Ole Miss football.

"We take these charges very seriously and will allow the legal system to run its course before making further determinations on his status in our program," the statement said.

According a police report obtained by the Clarion Ledger, Williams was taken into police custody at 9:39 a.m. on July 24 and was released at 2:42 p.m. Williams' bond was set at $25,000.

Williams recorded 9.5 tackles for loss and led Ole Miss with six sacks in 2019, his first year with the program. Prior to 2019, Williams played at Northeast Mississippi Community College where in 2018 he led all junior college players in sacks with 17.5 and was named the MACJC defensive lineman of the year.
