University of South Carolina freshman running back MarShawn Lloyd, the program’s top offensive recruit in this year’s class, will miss the 2020 season the school announced Thursday.

The 5-foot-9, 210-pound Wilmington, Delaware, native suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while participating in practice Wednesday.

"I'm extremely disappointed for MarShawn," South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said in a release by the school. "It was a non-contact situation where he just planted his foot and tore his ACL. MarShawn will attack his rehabilitation like he does everything in life. The best is yet to come for MarShawn Lloyd."

Rivals ranked him as the fourth-best running back in the country and No. 33 prospect overall. 247Sports ranked him the fifth-best running back in the country and No. 43 overall player regardless of position.

No date for his surgery has been set at this time.
