Reports: Shane Beamer expected to be next football coach at South Carolina

Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer is expected to be hired as South Carolina's football coach, multiple media outlets reported Saturday night.

The news was first reported by Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports and The Athletic shortly after the Gamecocks' regular season-ending 41-18 loss to Kentucky. Beamer, 43, is a Charleston native and former South Carolina assistant under Steve Spurrier.

Billy Napier, currently Louisiana-Lafayette's head coach and a former Clemson and Alabama assistant, said earlier Saturday he was no longer a candidate for the South Carolina job. Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield also publicly stated he was staying with the Cardinals after speaking with South Carolina.

Beamer, who is Oklahoma's assistant head coach for offense and tight ends/halfbacks coach, was with the Gamecocks from 2007-10 before leaving to spend spend four seasons under father Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech.

Shane Beamer will replace Will Muschamp, who was fired last month seven games into his fifth season with the Gamecocks. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has served as the team's interim head coach for the final three regular-season games. After starting the season 2-2, South Carolina has lost six consecutive games.
