SEC announces football schedule for 2024 with Oklahoma, Texas joining league

It's more than a year before Oklahoma and Texas join the Southeastern Conference and 14 months before the two schools begin their first football season in what should be an ultra-competitive league with 16 members. But the SEC is already whetting appetites for fans by releasing its 2024 schedule on Wednesday night.
This will be the first campaign the league starts without divisions, creating flexibility to match marquee opponents without regards to East or West designations, while maintaining the rivalries that are so central to the league.
The slate doesn't disappoint with the Sooners and Longhorns taking on some of the biggest names in their new conference, including the renewal of the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry that was halted in 2011 due to the Aggies departing the Big 12. Alabama and Georgia ― winners of the league the past season ― will clash for just the third time in the regular season in the past 15 years. The Crimson Tide also will travel to Oklahoma.
Most of the key SEC rivalries are retained - Alabama-Tennessee, Georgia-Florida and Mississippi-Mississippi State.
Among the other nuances, the league schedule will be eight games after a majority of schools at the SEC spring meetings were unwilling to approve an expected increase to nine matchups. That could change starting in 2025. Also, each of the current 14 teams will play either Oklahoma or Texas in 2024, giving them an opportunity to welcome or visit their new members. No team will play on the road against a team it is visiting in 2023.
