Jackson State quarterback Shedeur Sanders assured fans on social media a day after a scary injury that "2 feels GREAT, he is ready to play."

It was late in the third quarter in Saturday's game and Sanders felt pressure coming from both sides of the pocket against Alabama A&M. He ran the ball and had already picked up the first down. Sanders looked to the right and left at the same time he was sandwiched between two defenders. The hit was so violent, he had to be assisted off the field with the help of teammates and the team trainer.

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders talked to reporters Monday about seeing his son on the field and transiting from coach to dad. Sanders said there had been only two times this season that a player was injured that Sanders and the trainer had to go out and help them. Sanders said the team prides itself on being tough and getting up.

"I was still coach as I was walking out there to see about Shedeur," Deion Sanders said. "We pride ourselves on being tough and physical. He (Shedeur) got up, that’s what we do and came on back to the sidelines. He was a little cloudy and we administered that. Then when I went into the tent, then I was scolding him as a coach. ‘I told you to get down, we told you to get down several times in the last few weeks. But you still act like you want to run the darn ball like you’re (Baltimore Ravens QB) Lamar Jackson. We don’t need Lamar right now, we need Shedeur Sanders.’ "

Deion Sanders said he felt like his son learned his lesson and will do some of the best slides moving forward.

"You are going to think he was a baseball player with the way he is going to be sliding," said Deion Sanders.

Jackson State’s 27-13 victory secured their second consecutive SWAC East division title and 10th win in a row.

The Tigers (10-0, 7-0 SWAC) will play at Alcorn State (5-5, 4-3) on Saturday (2 p.m., ESPN+).

Sanders was 13-of-24 passing for 183 yards and four touchdown passes and ran the ball for 27 yards on six carries against Alabama A&M. Backup quarterback J.P. Andrade came in and was 3-of-9 passing for 19 passing yards. He ran the ball for a first down to keep a drive going and to eat up the game clock late in the fourth quarter.
