Hutchinson women's basketball team regains eligibility
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — Hutchinson Community College women's basketball has regained eligibility for postseason play for the upcoming season.
The school said in a statement Tuesday that part of an appeal it had filed with the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference had been approved.
The Hutchinson News reports (http://bit.ly/1UcUHqg ) the school was sanctioned in July after an investigation found two players from last season's team received more aid than permitted. The sanctions included scholarship reductions, vacating victories from the 2014-15 season and a postseason ban for this season.
After the appeal, the conference re-established Hutchinson's postseason eligibility for the upcoming season, and allowed victories to be counted in the conference standings. All other sanctions were upheld.
The team still must vacate its victories from last season, when it finished 36-1 and was NJCAA runner-up.
