With Women's March Madness starting in just a few days, many fans are scrambling, trying to figure out who to place as the winners of the tournament. That elusive perfect bracket is ever so enticing, and correctly predicting the winner is almost never as easy as just picking the best teams. That said, the top teams do often have better odds.
That isn't the case this year though. Although South Carolina is fresh off 2024 undefeated national championship season, the Gamecocks don't have the best record in the country this year. In fact, they aren't even the top team in the Paste BN Sports women's basketball coaches poll. That distinction belongs to UCLA, who at 30-2, may only be one loss better than South Carolina, but that is enough to warrant more than twice as many first-place votes.
So, does UCLA have the best odds to win the tournament this year? In the wise words of Vizzini, "You'd like to think that, wouldn't you?" According to BetMGM, South Carolina's experience and proven ability to win the tournament, having triumphed in two of the past three seasons, is enough to lift it over UCLA for now.
Here is the full list of contenders as we approach the tournament.
