A spot in the women's Sweet 16 is up for grabs between North Carolina and West Virginia on Monday.

The No. 3-seeded Tar Heels (28-7) take on the No. 6 Mountaineers (25-7) at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for a shot to continue their 2025 NCAA Tournament run. West Virginia will seek its first Sweet 16 appearance since the 1991-92 season. The Mountaineers have lost their past 10 second-round games. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels seek their first Sweet 16 appearance since the 2021-22 season.

UNC defeated No. 14 Oregon State 70-49 in the first round, while West Virginia earned a 78-59 victory over No. 11 Columbia.

The second-round matchup between the Tar Heels and Mountaineers will mark the second-ever matchup between the programs. In the lone meeting, North Carolina won 95-56 on Nov. 17, 1979, in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

North Carolina runs out the clock, and that'll do it. North Carolina advances through the first two rounds in Chapel Hill and will move on to play No. 2 seed Duke in the Birmingham Regional. What was once a close game at the half and for parts of the third quarter, before the Tar Heels outscored West Virginia 21-17 in the third quarter and 13-9 in the fourth quarter.

North Carolina's Alyssa Ustby led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Reniya Kelly and Lexi Donarski also added 11 points, respectively, for the Tar Heels. West Virginia's Jordan Harrison led all Mountaineers scorers with 10 points.

Neither team shot particularly well, but still UNC outpaced West Virginia, shooting 36.4% to 24.1%.
