Michael Sam to work out at NFL's first veteran combine
Michael Sam has been accepted to the NFL's first-ever veteran combine, the league confirmed Friday.
Sam, who is trying to become the league's first openly gay player, was cut by the St. Louis Rams last August and by the Dallas Cowboys in October after seven weeks on their practice squad.
If Sam doesn't receive an NFL offer this offseason, he is expected to take a one-year contract offer from the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes.
He is currently in rehearsals for the ABC show Dancing With the Stars but continues to train in Los Angeles at a gym co-owned by former NFL linebacker Brian Urlacher and FOXNFL insider Jay Glazer.
Invitations went out Friday for the combine, which will be held next month in Arizona.
Roughly 100 players are expected to be invited. The league has not released the complete list.
