The Harrisons: Matt Ryan, Eagles D and John Fox did not impress in Week 11

In honor of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison's bold stance, our weekly award for NFL players who didn't even deserve a participation trophy in Week 11.

EAGLES DEFENSE

Perhaps Paste BN Sports NFL writer Lorenzo Reyes, who covered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 45-17 rout of the Philadelphia Eagles, summed it up best when I asked him if anyone on the Philadelphia defense was more deserving of a Harrison than others. “No, this was a team effort,” he said.

JOHN FOX

Coaches being coaches. Fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line with around 10 minutes to play. The Chicago Bears trail by eight. Fox, trying to show he’s smarter than everybody, decides to go for it against the Denver Broncos, who own one of the league’s best defenses. Well, we know how that turned out. And then the Bears end up losing by two. Had Fox taken the field goal instead … well, you know.

JASON HATCHER

So the Washington Redskins gave up 44 points to the still-undefeated Carolina Panthers. And Hatcher, one of Washington’s defensive ends, partly blamed the refs. He said the team doesn’t get any calls because the officials hold the team’s nickname against them. Really. He said that. Sometimes this stuff writes itself.

MATT KALIL

OK, we know the Minnesota Vikings left tackle has a toe injury that limited his practice time. But being whistled for three penalties before the game against the Green Bay Packers reached the midway point of the second quarter? Perhaps we should have known it would be a long day for him when he ankle-tackled Julius Peppers on the first snap.

MATT RYAN

It wasn’t pretty, but the Atlanta Falcons were seemingly on their way to a win over the Indianapolis Colts. A much-needed win, by the way. But Ryan was baited into throwing a pass over the middle near his own end zone that turned into a pick-six and eventually another loss. Matty Ice? Uh, no.
