The Harrisons: Brock Osweiler plays his way back to bench
In honor of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison's bold stance, our weekly award for NFL players (and even owners) who didn't even deserve a participation trophy in Week 17:
DAN CARPENTER
It wasn’t so much that the Buffalo Bills kicker missed another extra point. We’re used to that by now. But when he smashed his helmet to the ground, and it bounced up and hit him in the face? He couldn’t even get that right.
RYAN FITZPATRICK
Just last week, someone in the New York media was touting the Jets quarterback as an MVP candidate. And then he went up to Buffalo and played like, well, like he did with the Bills. No playoffs. No MVP. No trophy. Sorry.
JIMMY HASLAM
We don’t care if the Cleveland Browns owner wants to fire his third coach in four seasons. But to let the world know it’s going to happen — even the exact time the meeting will be — is just not right. But that’s what you get from an owner who lets a person on the street dictate draft picks. Sorry, Cleveland.
GIANTS DEFENSE
In what probably was Tom Coughlin’s final game, his family showed up in force. His defense? Nowhere to be found in a 35-30 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Not a good way to say goodbye.
BROCK OSWEILER
The way to keep your job — with a certain five-time MVP on the sideline — was to take care of the ball. But two interceptions with home-field advantage in the playoffs on the line? Oh well, back to the bench. Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame. No participation trophy and maybe no more participation this season.
