SAN FRANCISCO -- The media spotlight will be bright as ever when Super Bowl 50 week kicks off in earnest Monday.

More than 5,500 media are credentialed to cover the game and related events in the Bay Area, the NFL said Sunday.

That's around the same number of credentials issued for last year's events in Arizona.

This year, the NFL is turning its annual media day gong show into a prime time event. "Super Bowl 50 Opening Night" is Monday night at SAP Center in San Jose.

The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers play Sunday at Levi's Stadium in nearby Santa Clara.
