Check back throughout Friday for all the latest quick hits from around the NFL.

Gronk questionable

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski remains questionable to play Sunday when the Patriots host the Dolphins in their home opener.

Gronk has been nursing a hamstring injury for a month and did not play in Week 1.

Receiver Chris Hogan is also questionable with a shoulder injury.

Rams promote Goff to No. 2 on depth chart

No. 1 overall draft pick Jared Goff will be the Los Angeles Rams’ backup quarterback in their home opener Sunday against Seattle.

Coach Jeff Fisher made the announcement Friday after the Rams’ final practice of the week.

Goff wasn’t in uniform for the Rams’ 28-0 loss at San Francisco in their season opener Monday. Sean Mannion served as the backup to Case Keenum, who went 17 for 35 for 130 yards with two interceptions.

Keenum is still the starter, but Fisher said the team is confident Goff would be ready to play if needed.

Goff went 22 for 49 with two touchdown passes and two interceptions in the preseason with the Rams, who had the NFL’s worst offense last season.

Welker to hang out with Brady?

In little more than three weeks, suspended Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be back under center. Apparently, he's already serious about being ready to return to his day job and will get some help from an old friend to stay sharp.

"I'm actually heading up to the game (Saturday, a day before the Patriots host the Dolphins), and I hit (Brady) up to do dinner Saturday night," former New England slot receiver Wes Welker said on a Miami radio station.

"(Brady) was like, 'I'm going to be flying in from Ann Arbor later, but hey, how about that morning we go throw?' And I'm just sitting there, like, 'I was just thinking about dinner, but yeah, sure.' I'll get over there early and we can throw a little bit. That's the only thing we really have planned."

Charles doubtful

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles apparently still isn't ready to make his 2016 debut in the wake of reconstructive knee surgery and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at Houston.

The Chiefs will also be missing starting guards Parker Ehinger (concussion) and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (ankle), potentially disastrous news against J.J. Watt and the Texans' imposing defense.

Ivory out

Jaguars running back Chris Ivory returned to the team Thursday after being hospitalized for an undisclosed medical issue Sunday morning.

However Ivory, the AFC rushing leader in 2015 as a member of the New York Jets, didn't practice this week and won't play in Week 2 against the San Diego Chargers.

Ivory said Thursday that his medical problem has been resolved and that, “I’m looking to be back soon.”

The Jags will also be without corner Prince Amukamara (hamstring).

Hilton back at practice

After missing Thursday's practice with a knee issue, Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton was back on the field Friday. He'll be facing arguably the league's best secondary Sunday in Denver.

The news is less encouraging for Indy's secondary which will be without three starters: Patrick Robinson (concussion), CB Vontae Davis (ankle) and FS T.J. Green (knee).
