Wednesday Buzz: Belichick says starting QB could be 'game-time decision'

Check back throughout the day for all the latest quick hits from around the NFL:

Belichick on QB situation

We know this might shock you, but New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is being coy about his starting quarterback for Thursday night's game against Houston.

He even said Jimmy Garoppolo, who sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder on Sunday, could be a "game-time decision."

According to ESPN.com, Belichick would ask during an interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub when he would know who will start -- Garoppolo or rookie Jacoby Brissett.

"It might be as early as this afternoon, it might be as late as when we turn in the inactives tomorrow night," Belichick said. "We'll just have to see how it all comes together. Any time you have a short week like this, you always have a few players that are banged up and working their way back. Where exactly they'll be on game time Thursday night, a lot of times you don't know until Thursday night."

This, of course, will make the Texans prepare for both.

Garoppolo, however, was listed as doubtful on the injury report for Thursday's game.

Browns WR Coleman breaks hand

The Cleveland Browns got more bad news on the injury front Wednesday.

Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman broke his hand in practice. It was not immediately clear how long the injury would sideline Coleman for.

Coleman had eight catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2.

Lions put Abdullah on IR

Ameer Abdullah's once promising season might be over.

The Detroit Lions placed their starting running back on injured reserve Wednesday  with a foot injury he suffered in last week's 16-15 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Abdullah leads the Lions with 101 yards rushing on 18 carries through the season's first two games. He hobbled off the field after a 24-yard run late in Sunday's first half.

While initial x-rays showed no fracture, Abdullah had enough swelling in his foot that the Lions sent him to Charlotte to get a second opinion from renown foot surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson on Tuesday.

With Abdullah gone, Theo Riddick takes over as the Lions' No. 1 running back and rookie seventh-round pick Dwayne Washington slides into the backup role.

Riddick had a career-high 11 carries but for just 37 yards against the Titans, while Washington has shown flashes of potential in limited use this season.

Colts WR out 4-6 weeks

In Wednesday's press conference, Colts coach Chuck Pagano announced that wide receiver Donte Moncrief would be out for 4-6 weeks after suffering a shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to Denver.

Pagano said Moncrief has a fractured scapula. Pagano also added that Moncrief will not require surgery.

In two games, Moncrief has seven receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown.

Second-year player Phillip Dorsett now slides into the No. 2 role opposite T.Y. Hilton. Dorsett has five receptions for 124 yards this season.

Jackson sits out practice

Redskins WR  DeSean Jackson (knee/ankle) sat our practice on Wednesday. Coach Jay Gruden said Jackson was hurt int he third quarter of Sunday's game against Dallas but did not elaborate.

Jackson talked to the New York media earlier in the day and did not mention an injury.

The Redskins play the Giants om Sunday.
