Vikings get more bad news on injury front

The Minnesota Vikings' unfortunate run on injuries this week continued Thursday with another significant hit.

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd underwent knee surgery, the team confirmed. At the moment, there is no timetable for his return.

The loss is the latest in a series of tough blows for Minnesota. Running back Adrian Peterson also underwent surgery for a torn meniscus Thursday, though no additional issues were discovered. His eventual return date is still unclear. Offensive tackle Matt Kalil also was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury.

More problems for Bears?

As if quarterback Jay Cutler's injured thumb wasn't a big enough setback, the Chicago Bears passing attack may have another major issue.

Receiver Alshon Jeffery did not practice Thursday as he deals with a knee problem. He was a limited participant Thursday.

But an already struggling Chicago offense could be severely hindered Sunday night against the Cowboys if Jeffery is forced to join Cutler in street clothes.

Timetable for Corey Coleman's injury

Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman does not need surgery on his broken hand, a small but sorely needed positive for the Cleveland Browns.

Coleman, who scored two touchdowns last weekend, will miss at least one month after breaking his hand during practice on Wednesday, the latest setback to a team reeling from injuries to two starting quarterbacks in the season’s first two weeks.

The first-round pick visited a hand specialist Thursday. Coleman does not need an operation but will need four to six weeks to recover. With that timetable, he could be back as early as Cleveland’s game on Oct. 23 at Cincinnati.

Coleman banged his hand on a defender while making a catch during practice. He stayed on the field for the entire workout before undergoing an X-ray following practice.

His injury is the latest misfortune for the young Browns, who already have lost four other starters, including quarterbacks Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III, and will start rookie QB Cody Kessler this week against Miami.

Saints' Williams expected to recover

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton says cornerback P.J. Williams is expected to make a full recovery by this offseason from a traumatic blow to the head that occurred during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Payton, who discussed Williams’ health on Thursday, says the decision to place Williams on injured reserve this week was “an easy one” because doctors made it clear that Williams would require significant rest to recover from a concussion the coach describes as one of the “more severe” he has seen.

Williams was knocked unconscious when he absorbed a knee to the helmet during a collision with Giants tight end Larry Donnell.

Titans' Warmack to IR

The Tennessee Titans have added defensive back Curtis Riley to their active roster and have officially placed guard Chance Warmack on injured reserve.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday that Warmack would undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon on his right hand and would be placed on injured reserve. The move was officially announced Thursday.
