Broncos' QB decision

Denver coach Gary Kubiak said he might wait until kickoff to decide who starts at quarterback on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Even though Trevor Siemian sat out practice Wednesday nursing a shoulder injury on his non-throwing arm and will probably rest it the remainder of the week, Kubiak said that wouldn’t stop him from letting him play Sunday.

“I trust Trevor. He knows exactly what we’re doing,” Kubiak told reporters Wednesday, according to the Denver Post. “He’s very bright. He’s on top of everything. Today he was part of the walk-throughs and everything we were doing.

“We don’t ever want to put anybody out there who can’t do their job. If the guy can’t go out there and protect himself and do his job, you as a coach, regardless of what position he plays, you’d probably go in a different direction that day. But he’s progressing well and we feel very fortunate. We’ll see where we’re at each day.”

If Siemian can’t go, the Broncos will turn to rookie Paxton Lynch.

Cam sits out practice again

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was not at the start of practice for the second straight day while dealing with a concussion.

The 2015 league MVP was among four players not at the first 20 minutes of practice Thursday that are open to the media. Left tackle Michael Oher (concussion), cornerback James Bradberry (toe) and defensive tackle Vernon Butler (ankle) were also not present. Linebacker Thomas Davis and running back Jonathan Stewart, who are battling hamstring injuries, were at practice but not in pads.

The Panthers (1-3) host Tampa Bay on Monday night.
