Moments earlier, the Washington Redskins tight end was blasted by Carolina Panthers safety Tre Boston away from the play during Monday night's game, and it appeared to be no accident.

Boston laid into Reed's injured left shoulder, the same one that limited him to 10 snaps last week. After all, Reed suffered a separated shoulder in the Thanksgiving Day loss to the Dallas Cowboys and has tolerated the pain since.

Now, tangled up with Kurt Coleman, Reed lost his cool, and threw two right hands at the safety, one of which connected with Coleman's face mask.

Reed shook his right hand and swiftly was ejected for unnecessary roughness. More so, the penalty pushed the trailing Redskins out of the red zone, and they eventually settled for a field goal.

The injured Reed wasn't a factor Monday — one catch for six yards — but his presence must always be accounted for. With him fully healthy — 60 catches for 640 yards in eight starts — the Washington offense is one of the league's most dynamic.

Without Reed pulling safeties and linebackers to him like a magnet, it's a different story.
