Wednesday NFL buzz: Jon Gruden says 'I have no intentions of coaching'
Check back here throughout the day for all the latest quick-hit news:
Gruden staying put?
If you believe Jon Gruden, he's not in the mix to be the next coach of the Los Angeles Rams (or Jacksonville Jaguars).
“I’m very happy doing what I’m doing,” Gruden said Wednesday morning on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning.
“My full attention and focus is on Cowboys-Lions, I cannot wait for our final Monday night game. There’s a lot of chips on the table. Right now, I have no intentions of coaching. I really enjoy what I’m doing and feel like I’m really close to the fire. I’m getting plenty of satisfaction out of doing what I’m doing.”
Gruden last coached in 2008, comfortably employed ever since by ESPN as a Monday Night Football analyst and evaluator of draft-eligible quarterbacks in the spring.
Still, speculation will continue that someone, especially Rams owner Stan Kroenke, has the money and sales pitch to lure Chucky back. Paste BN Sports' Tom Pelissero laid out that train of thought last week.
Peterson unsure whether he'll play
Running back Adrian Peterson is unsure if he'll be available to play Saturday in the Minnesota Vikings' game against the rival Green Bay Packers.
Peterson was listed on Minnesota's participation report with knee and groin injuries.
"I'm taking it day by day," Peterson told reporters after sitting out practice Wednesday.
In his first game back after tearing his meniscus in Week 2, Peterson had six carries for 22 yards last week against the Indianapolis Colts.
Anderson unlikely to play again this season
Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said running back C.J. Anderson is unlikely to play this season as he recovers from a torn meniscus.
Anderson is expected to return to action in February.
Cowboys CB Claiborne could be nearing return
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Morris Claiborne, who has missed the last seven games with a groin injury, is on the verge of a return for the Cowboys.
Claiborne went through three “strenuous” workouts ahead of last week’s game, but had some lingering soreness over the weekend. Jones wouldn’t provide a timetable for Claiborne’s return, but said the practice regimen would continue and that the team feels good about his progress.
The fifth-year player out of LSU and was arguably the Cowboys’ most improved player this season, as he was playing as well as anyone in the team’s secondary.
