Several protesters shut down some light rail tracks just hours before the Super Bowl in Minneapolis.

Some protesters chained themselves to fencing or stood on the tracks to keep trains from moving - in some places in either direction.

KSTP, the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul, reported several stops were affected including the green line stop at the University of Minnesota's West Bank station.

The blue and green lines were offering Super Bowl fans - who had to have a ticket to the game and pay $30 - transport from the Mall of America to and from U.S. Bank Stadium. This gave fans a chance to go through security out of the weather, which was in the single digits with blistering winds. Officials said it could be the coldest Super Bowl on record.

Howie Padilla, a spokesman for Metro Transit, which serves the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, told Paste BN Sports some riders who were affected were transferred to a bus to complete their journey.

He later confirmed 17 people were detained, but there were no arrests. He would not confirm which groups were involved.

The train lines were back up and running before kickoff, and some protesters moved to Gate 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
