Houston Texans trade running back Mark Ingram to New Orleans Saints
Three-time Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram is heading back to New Orleans.
The Houston Texans are trading Ingram to the Saints, Paste BN Sports+ senior NFL insider Josina Anderson confirmed from a person with direct knowledge of the situation. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported the trade. Pelissero reported the terms of the deal are still being finalized, but would include late-round draft picks.
Ingram returns for a second stint with the Saints. He spent eight seasons with the organization after being selected 28th overall in the 2011 NFL draft. Ingram was selected to two Pro Bowls with the Saints, and has a great relationship with Saints star Alvin Kamara.
The duo played together for two seasons. Ingram could earn immediate carries given he already knows Saints head coach Sean Payton’s system.
During his Saints tenure, Ingram rushed for 6,007 yards and 63 touchdowns. He also added 267 receptions for 1,919 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Saints have looked for backfield help to complement Kamara. Ingram brings veteran experience as the Saints compete in a tough NFC South division.
Texans star Brandin Cooks voiced his displeasure after the trade in a NSFW tweet.
This season, Ingram appeared in seven games with the Texans. He rushed for 294 yards and a touchdown, while averaging 3.2 yards per carry.
