After the team’s opening scoring drive, Harrison Butker slipped on the kickoff and rolled his ankle. He got up limping after the play and headed to the sideline with the training staff.
After a little time, Butker’s ankle swole up according to sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson and he was carted to the locker room. The team ruled him questionable to return to the game with a left ankle injury.
As a result, Justin Reid is now working as the team’s emergency kicker, he nailed an extra point in the preseason against the Bears.
This offseason, Reid expressed his passion for soccer. He grew up playing the sport and relished any opportunity to kick in a game. He kicked extra-points with both the Chiefs and Houston Texans throughout his career.
"I had big plans, when I was young, to go and play in Europe," Reid said during a recent appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "You know, be like Didier Drogba, maybe go play for Chelsea. And then I eventually ended up finding love and passion in football. Around eighth, ninth grade, I made the switch. But I always kept my kicking background; I kicked in high school."
Reid is 1-for-2 on extra points in this game against the Cardinals. He also booted a kick out of the back of the end zone with a touchback.
