Kansas City Chiefs promote Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator

The Kansas City Chiefs hired from within to fill their vacant offensive coordinator job.
As expected, the Chiefs promoted senior offensive assistant/quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator, the team announced Friday. Nagy is replacing Eric Bieniemy, who recently departed to become the Washington Commanders' offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
Nagy rejoined the Chiefs in 2022 after spending the previous four seasons as the Chicago Bears head coach. He compiled a 34-31 record in Chicago.
Prior to joining the Bears, Nagy was Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017. He also served as the Chiefs' quarterback coach from 2013 to 2015.

What Matt Nagy's hire means for the Chiefs
Nagy's hire signals that the defending Super Bowl champions are sticking with continuity. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is the team's offensive play caller and Nagy has in-depth knowledge of Reid's coaching philosophy from his time spent working for him.
Nagy was an assistant coach under Reid dating to when Reid was the Philadelphia Eagles head coach. Nagy also has had a good rapport with two-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes.
