Someone needs to tell Travis Kelce that while it's OK to spike footballs (after a touchdown), the same doesn't apply to baseballs.

Yet that's exactly what the Kansas City Chiefs tight end did while throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Cleveland Guardians' game on Friday.

Kelce, an Ohio native, nearly took out Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber with a pitch that spiked hard before it reached the plate. It nearly caught Bieber in the head on the bounce.

Kelce even ran as if he were covering home plate after a wild pitch.

The failed pitch went viral on social media with folks poking fun at Kelce from all angles. Even the popular clip account Pitching Ninja had some fun with it.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also couldn't resist the opportunity to have fun at Kelce's expense.

Mahomes quote-tweeted a clip of Kelce's first pitch and added a series of crying-laughing emojis.

Mahomes and Kelce just picked up their second Super Bowl victory together in February, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 33-year-old Kelce has made eight Pro Bowls and is a four-time All-Pro at tight end.
