A kicking competition has commenced in Dallas.

The Cowboys signed kicker Brandon Aubrey, the team announced Thursday. The 28-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL.

Aubrey converted 14 of 15 field goals and all 35 PATs for the Stallions in 2023. He was named an all-USFL kicker in 2022.

Prior to joining the Stallions, Aubrey was college soccer player at Notre Dame. He was drafted by Toronto FC in the 2017 MLS draft. His soccer career lasted until 2018.

Aubrey, a native of Plano, Texas, will compete with Tristan Vizcaino for the Cowboys’ starting kicker job. The competition is set to begin when the Cowboys report to training camp on July 25.

USFL championship: Birmingham Stallions repeat as title winners

Brett Maher was the Cowboys kicker in 2022, putting up a franchise-record 137 points. He made 29 of 32 field goals and 50 of 53 extra points, but he missed five extra points in two playoff games last season. Maher became a free agent in March.

Dallas found luck in the USFL last year. The Cowboys signed KaVontae Turpin after he was named MVP of the USFL in 2022. Turpin went on to earn Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors as a return specialist last year.
