Being at the top is a regular occurrence for Patrick Mahomes these days. The quarterback is the reigning MVP, and his Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions. But Mahomes was No. 1 in something new last week.

The “Quarterback” docuseries co-starring Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota was the No. 1 show on Netflix last week.

Mahomes, and the rest of the Chiefs' quarterbacks and rookies reported to training camp on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University. Speaking to reporters for the first time at training camp, Mahomes was asked about the popularity of the hit docuseries.

“Being No. 1 in the U.S. on Netflix is awesome. I mean, that’s what you hope for. Obviously, to get that is amazing,” Mahomes said. “Everything that’s been said had been positive.”

What’s also positive is Mahomes’ right ankle recovery. Mahomes injured his ankle during Kansas City’s Super Bowl 57 run. He declared Tuesday that his ankle is healed as he enters his seventh career NFL training camp.

“It feels great. Even going into OTAs a little bit, I still was a little timid about running and cutting and doing stuff like that. But when I got closer to vet minicamp and later OTA stage, I got that confidence back in my ankle,” Mahomes said. “I think I’m at a good spot with it.”

The Chiefs were one of nine NFL teams with rookies reporting to training camp on Tuesday. Chiefs quarterbacks accompanied the first-year players. The team's veterans report on Saturday.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that quarterbacks always have work to do and he’s steadily giving Mahomes new challenges.

“With quarterbacks, the work is never done. I mentioned before, it’s like being a farmer. Just keep on cranking. We are always trying to give him new challenges with things, and he loves that,” Reid said. “There are always things to work on. Fundamentally, there’s always things to work on.”

One daunting challenge for Mahomes and the Chiefs this year is to try to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots during the 2003-04 seasons. Tuesday’s report date for Chiefs quarterbacks and rookies is a beginning step in the team's title defense quest.

“The thing this year is how can we keep building? We obviously won the Super Bowl last year and it was amazing,” Mahomes said. “Want to continue to get better and better. You look around the AFC, everybody has gotten better. You want to continue to build and build and not be satisfied with what we did last year and see if we can take that next step.”
