Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 1 game

The Indianapolis Colts will enter a new era offensively when they open their season hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson is the next successor of a string of passers going back to Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. He follows Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan and Andrew Luck, who retired suddenly in 2019. Indianapolis will be without star running back Jonathan Taylor for at least the first four games of the season and, technically, he could still be traded. So the rookie has work cut out for him.

The Jaguars' destiny is firmly in the grasp of Trevor Lawrence, who enters his third NFL season fresh off his first Pro Bowl. He has wide receivers Zay Jones and Christian Kirk by his side as Jacksonville seeks to make a consecutive playoff berth for the first time in 24 years.

Lorenzo Reyes: Jaguars 25, Colts 17

Frankly, this one may have the makings of a blowout. While Anthony Richardson has all the raw material to potentially be a star, Indianapolis has such a young and uneven roster. Not having Jonathan Taylor is a massive blow and Richardson may feel compelled to put the team on his back. With a veteran coach like Doug Pederson and ascending stars like Trevor Lawrence on the Jaguars’ side, I’m comfortably backing the Jags to clear five points.

Tyler Dragon: Jaguars 26, Colts 17

It’s going to be fun to watch Anthony Richardson run the Colts offense this season. What’s not so fun, is an Indy offense sans RB Jonathan Taylor (PUP-list). The Jaguars’ addition of WR Calvin Ridley is going to make dividends.

Victoria Hernandez: Jaguars 24, Colts 20

The Colts are going to be hurting without Jonathan Taylor. Anthony Richardson will impress in his role as starting quarterback, but Trevor Lawrence has experience and composure. Adding Calvin Ridley to the mix will help the Jaguars capture the victory.

Jordan Mendoza: Jaguars 30, Colts 13

Don’t sleep on the Jacksonville offense. It’ll be exciting to see how Calvin Ridley fits within the team, as he’s poised to have a big comeback into the league. The Colts offense remains a mystery, and it’ll have trouble starting up in Week 1.
