The New Orleans Saints start the Derek Carr era by hosting the Tennessee Titans in their 2023 season opener. Extra weight is on Carr to get the Saints' season started out right because star running back Alvin Kamara is suspended three games.

The Titans will continue to rely on running back Derrick Henry to power their offense after he had his fourth 1,000-yard season last year. Veteran Ryan Tannehill is expected to be the starting quarterback, but will have Malik Willis and rookie Will Levis waiting in the wings.

Both teams missed the playoffs last year in lackluster conferences. They will be seeking to start the new season with positive momentum to get them back into the postseason.

Lorenzo Reyes: Titans 21, Saints 17

I like Tennessee as a candidate for an upset here because this team seems to do best when everyone counts them out. The health of breakout receiver Treylon Burks will be key as game time approaches, but if he goes, I think the Titans will be able to put up points. And, with Derek Carr assimilating to New Orleans’ roster, it may take some time for him to jell with his teammates.

Derek Carr to New Orleans will prove to be one of the most underrated moves of the offseason. Carr is the best Saints QB since Drew Brees. On paper, the Saints are the top team in the NFC South. New Orleans’ defensive gameplan is to contain Derrick Henry and force Ryan Tannehill to make winning plays with his arm.

Victoria Hernandez: Saints 24, Titans 17

The New Orleans Saints will start off this season with a big boost of momentum and should be able to easily cover the spread. Derek Carr will have no problem getting his footing with his new team. Chris Olave and Michael Thomas will help him even as Alvin Kamara sits out.

Jordan Mendoza: Saints 23, Titans 21

Even with Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill has tons of pressure on him with two young backups awaiting their turn to run the offense. Derek Carr has an impressive debut in New Orleans, and the Superdome proves to be too much for Tennessee.
