New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 5 game

The New England Patriots (1-3) return home after being handed a loss by the Dallas Cowboys last week. They host the New Orleans Saints (2-2), who floundered last week in a divisional matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Patriots continue to have a major question mark at quarterback. Mac Jones was benched in the third quarter on Sunday in favor of Bailey Zappe. Jones went 12-of-21 for 150 yards and turned over the ball three times with two interceptions and a lost fumble.

The Saints also have uncertainty at quarterback (again) as Derek Carr has been struggling with a shoulder injury. He was a game-time decision last week and went 23-of-37 for 127 yards. New Orleans failed to reach the end zone. Alvin Kamara had 11 carries for 51 yards on the ground and added 13 catches for 33 yards in his first game back from suspension.

The two teams last played each other in 2021. The Saints won 28-13 as Jones threw three interceptions.

Lorenzo Reyes: Saints 17, Patriots 14

This is a tough game to call, as both squads have been wildly inconsistent and both are dealing with injuries at key spots. On the whole, I like the New Orleans roster and think the Saints defense can pressure Mac Jones into turning the ball over. That said, I think there are better plays out there this week, though I like the under in this game better than anything else.

Tyler Dragon: Saints 20, Patriots 16

The Cowboys handed Bill Belichick the worst loss of his career. Mac Jones’ play is underwhelming. If Jones continues to toe the line of mediocrity, there could be a QB change coming in New England. The Saints have lost two in a row, but their defense contains the Patriots in this one and the offense leans into Alvin Kamara.

Victoria Hernandez: Saints 17, Patriots 12

Both struggling offenses make this game essentially a tossup. Alvin Kamara's return gives the Saints something positive to build off and their multi-tiered quarterback situation with Taysom Hill has more promise than whatever is going on in New England.

Jordan Mendoza: Saints 16, Patriots 13

Two offenses with no sense of rhythm mean a defensive clinic is set to be on display in Foxborough. Neither team has scored more than 20 points this season, so betting the under is one of the safest moves to make this week. It was concerning that even with Alvin Kamara back, the New Orleans offense couldn't get its weapon some more free space. They look better this week while the Patriots continue to struggle.
