Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Jets: injury and fantasy news for Monday Night Football

A clash between the Los Angeles Chargers (3-4) and New York Jets (4-3) on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium will bring an end to Week 9 NFL action.

Los Angeles is playing in its second straight prime-time game after taking down the Chicago Bears, 30-13, on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. Quarterback Justin Herbert found success at home, going 31-40 on pass attempts for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jets are on a roll, having won their last three games, including an ugly overtime win over the New York Giants. Quarterback Zach Wilson struggled to take care of the ball with two lost fumbles in the victory and was 17-36 for 240 yards and a touchdown.

Week 9 fantasy football news: Chargers at Jets

Chargers wide receivers:

Josh Palmer, the Chargers' No. 2 wide receiver, is set to miss Monday action with a knee injury. That opens up a big opportunity for rookie receiver Quentin Johnston to step up halfway into what has thus far been an underwhelming first-year campaign.

Johnston, who was drafted with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has 114 receiving yards on 12 catches this season. He recorded 50 receiving yards and five catches against the Bears last week, both career highs.

Jalen Guyton has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since training camp as he's continued his recovery from an ACL tear in Week 3 of the 2022 season. He may make his return this week against the Jets after he was a full participant in practice all week, and he could get worked into the Chargers' offensive gameplan quickly given Palmer's injury.

Jets wide receivers:

Allen Lazard popped up on the injury report late this week after injuring his knee in practice. That could mean an even heavier target share for fellow wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the Jets' current leading receiver.

It could also mean additional pass-catching opportunities for tight end Tyler Conklin or running back Breece Hall. Wide receivers Randall Cobb and Xavier Gipson, neither of whom have more than a dozen targets this season, could see a bump in action as well.
