Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Eagles' Jalen Hurts lead NFL MVP race odds halfway through season

The conclusion of Week 9 action in the NFL marked the end of the first half of the 2023 season and the NFL MVP race is heating up. After nine weeks, there is some clarity among the front-runners for the league's Most Valuable Player with plenty of time for things to shake out.

As things currently stand, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has the best odds to win this year's AP MVP award one year after he won it a second time. The rest of the top five include some of the other young quarterbacks that have already established themselves as some of the best signal-callers of the new generation.

As the NFL moves into the second half of the 2023 season, we'll be tracking NFL MVP odds every week for the remainder of the season.

Here's how the latest NFL MVP odds look, as of Monday, Nov. 6, courtesy of BetMGM.

NFL Week 9: 32 things we learned: Not your average QB matchups

NFL MVP race headed into Week 10

1. QB Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (+275)

Last week: 1 (+300)

Mahomes has been holding at least a share of first place in NFL MVP odds nearly every week since open. The one exception came after the Dolphins' 70-point offensive explosion in Week 3 that catapulted quarterback Tua Tagovailoa into a one-week stint as the sole odds leader.

The Chiefs quarterback's most recent performance, a 21-14 win over the Dolphins, helped boost his odds lead after Week 9. Mahomes was 20-30 on pass attempts with 185 yards and two touchdowns against Miami in the clash between two of the AFC's top teams in Frankfurt, Germany.

He and Kansas City will host the Eagles in a rematch of last year's Super Bowl on Monday Night Football in Week 11 following the Chiefs' bye.

2. QB Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (+300)

Last week: T-2 (+350)

Hot on Mahomes' tail is the leader of the last one-loss team in the NFL, the Eagles. Jalen Hurts has been consistently near the top of the MVP odds board since open and climbed to his best odds of the season after a Week 9 28-23 win over the Cowboys.

Hurts finished the game against Dallas having completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 207 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 36 yards and adding another score with his legs.

Philadelphia will have a Week 10 bye then hit the road for the Super Bowl 57 rematch on Monday Night Football in Week 11.

3. QB Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens (+400)

Last week: 4 (+600)

After signing a big contract extension with the Ravens during the offseason, quarterback Lamar Jackson is doing all he can to make the team feel good about the decision. He's had some excellent performances so far in the first half of the 2023 season.

Jackson was 21-26 on pass attempts with 187 yards in Baltimore's 37-3 home win over the Seattle Seahawks. He also tallied 60 rushing yards on 10 carries in the victory.

The Ravens stay home to take on the Browns in an AFC North clash in Week 10.

4. QB Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (+600)

Last week: T-2 (+350)

After a loss to Mahomes and the Chiefs in Germany, the Dolphins quarterback's odds dropped to the lowest they've been since Week 2 of the season. Even so, Tagovailoa still managed to stay within the top four after nine weeks.

He was 21-34 on pass attempts in Frankfurt with 193 yards and one touchdown pass against a stout Kansas City defense.

Miami will have Week 10 off with a bye before returning home to play the Raiders in Week 11.

5. QB Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (+900)

Last week: 7 (+2000)

A big win for Joe Burrow and the Bengals over the Bills on Sunday Night Football, 24-18, represented the culmination of Cincinnati and its quarterback's turnaround after early struggles.

Burrow continued his ongoing return to dominant form in Week 9, completing 31 of his 44 pass attempts for 348 yards and two touchdowns. It pushed the quarterback's streak to four straight games with multiple touchdown passes.

The Bengals stay home in Cincinnati to host the Texans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, a team coming off of an epic comeback win over the Buccaneers.

Game-winning drive: Vikings QB Joshua Dobbs didn't know most of his teammates' names. He led them to a win.
