Week 2 of the NFL preseason is upon us, which means we're one week closer to the games that actually count. There's only one matchup on the schedule for Thursday, August 15. Here's a look at what to expect and how to watch the action:

How to watch Thursday's NFL preseason game

The Philadelphia Eagles are slated to play the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast nationally on NFL Network. You can also stream Thursday's game on NFL+ or through Fubo.

It remains to be seen how much either team plays its projected starters, but this will be a pivotal year for both franchises.

The Philadelphia Eagles, less than two years removed from making it to Super Bowl LVII, are trying to bounce back from their tailspin at the end of the 2023 campaign. They lost five of their final regular-season six games after a 10-1 start before getting bounced in the wild card round of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

WEEK 1 EAGLES PRESEASON OVERREACTIONS: The real concern on Jalen Hurts' backups; Quinyon's quest

Eagles coach Nick Siriani brought in former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and the team signed running back Saquon Barkley away from the New York Giants this offseason to help jump start an offense that struggled even with Jalen Hurts under center down the stretch. Philadelphia beat Baltimore in its preseason opener, but Hurts, Barkley and star wide receiver A.J. Brown did not play. This could be their first action of the preseason.

New England began its post-Bill Belichick era under new coach Jerod Mayo with a 17-3 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL draft out of North Carolina, played one series and completed two of his three pass attempts for 19 yards. New England primarily used third-year player Bailey Zappe and rookie Joe Milton under center after that.

This second preseason game will be an interesting litmus test for Maye's progress. Veteran Jacoby Brissett, who could begin the regular season as the team's starting quarterback, has been getting most of the first-team reps in practice and did not appear in the first preseason game.
