NFL MVP rankings: Favorites to win 2024-25 award

The race to be crowned the 2024 NFL MVP is one of the biggest stories in the league, with 18 weeks of action giving fans plenty of angles to debate who this season's best player is.
The 2024 NFL season begins this week, and a long list of players have a shot at claiming the MVP. Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson claimed the award last season, making it 11 years in a row that a quarterback has ended up being the MVP. Jackson joined Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers on the list of active NFL players to win the MVP, with that trio each claiming a pair of MVP crowns over the past six years.
Unsurprisingly, that means the list of favorites is heavy on quarterbacks, with experienced stars like Josh Allen and Dak Prescott (who led the NFL in passing touchdowns last season) competing with young upstarts like Joe Burrow, CJ Stroud, and Jordan Love.

2024 NFL MVP odds: Favorites and sleepers
As of September 4, BetMGM has offered the following odds for the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player award:
- 15 - Trevor Lawrence: +3000
- T13 - Jared Goff: +2500
- T13 - Tua Tagovailoa: +2500
- T11 - Aaron Rodgers: +2000
- T11 - Matthew Stafford: +2000
Among the sleeper tier, there are some tempting options. Jared Goff helped the Detroit Lions within a whisker of a stunning Super Bowl berth last season and is surrounded by high-end talent on an offense that should score a ton of points all year. The Miami Dolphins may not quite have had the same success, but Tua Tagovailoa is working with arguably the fastest set of attacking weapons in the NFL, opening the door for him to put up huge numbers once again.
- T8 - Jalen Hurts: +1600
- T8 - Brock Purdy: +1600
- T8 - Jordan Love: +1600
- T6 - Dak Prescott: +1400
- T6 - Justin Herbert: +1400
- 5 - Lamar Jackson: +1200
- 4 - CJ Stroud: +1000
- T2 - Joe Burrow: +900
- T2 - Josh Allen: +900
- 1 - Patrick Mahomes: +600
As a two-time MVP and defending Super Bowl Champion, seeing Patrick Mahomes listed as the betting favorite to take this award is no surprise. Similarly, Lamar Jackson (another two-timer whose Baltimore Ravens were the no. 1 seed in the AFC last year) is a strong choice.
Josh Allen finished in the top five for passing yards and touchdowns last season and figures to do the same this season. Joe Burrow, after missing seven games with an injury for the Cincinnati Bengals, will be looking to bounce back in an offense designed to air the ball out. Finally, CJ Stroud last year became the fifth rookie to ever throw for over 4,000 yards. If he takes another step forward this season, he has a real shot at getting into the MVP race.
When does the NFL season start?
