NFL Rookie of the Year rankings: Favorites to win 2024-25 awards

The 2024 NFL season will see plenty of incredible individual performances, and tracking the Rookie of the Year race will mean watching first-year players break out as stars of the future (and maybe even the present).
The Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates include Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders), and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos), all of whom claimed starting quarterback roles in the preseason. Some highly touted receivers are also considered strong candidates, including Malik Nabers and Marvin Harrison Jr. — son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr. — are also set for plenty of opportunities to showcase themselves.
As for Defensive Rookie of the Year, Minnesota Vikings duo Dallas Turner and Byron Murphy are preseason candidates, as is Laiatu Latu (the earliest defensive player taken in this year's draft). Two other first-round picks, Jared Verse and Terrion Arnold, have won starting jobs in training camp, boosting their hopes to win this major award at the end of the season.
Here's what you need to know about the favorites to win the 2024 NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the year awards:
2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds: Favorites and sleepers
As of Thursday, Sept. 5, BetMGM has offered the following odds for the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award:
- Caleb Williams: +130
- Jayden Daniels: +500
- Marvin Harrison Jr.: +750
- Bo Nix: +1000
- Malik Nabers: +1300
- Xavier Worthy: +2000
- Keon Coleman: +3000
Williams and Daniels, the starting QBs for Chicago and Washington, respectively, lead the pack as OROY favorites. If Williams gets better protection from the Bears' offensive line than Justin Fields got last season, he might have a shot. Daniels, meanwhile, needs the Commanders to find their footing on all fronts under new coach Dan Quinn. Nix is also in with a shot after winning a three-way competition to claim the starting QB job in Denver.
Rookie wide receivers also have a good shot, with Harrison (Arizona) and Nabers (New York Giants) entering the season listed as their team's WR1. Kansas City Chiefs first-rounder Xavier Worthy and Buffalo Bills wideout Keon Coleman might not get as much usage, but being on dangerous offenses means there's an avenue to putting up numbers for good teams.
2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds: Favorites and sleepers
As of Thursday, Sept. 5, BetMGM has offered the following odds for the 2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award:
- Dallas Turner: +400
- Laiatu Latu: +450
- Byron Murphy: +1000
- Jared Verse: +1100
- Quinyon Mitchell: +1200
- Terrion Arnold: +1400
- Chop Robinson: +1500
Turner and Murphy are among the favorites, but the Vikings don't have Turner listed as a starter heading into Week 1, while Murphy's status as a nickel back means fewer downs than other defensive backs. With the Indianapolis Colts, Latu is in a similar place as Turner is with Minnesota, while Chop Robinson could end up starting the season as a blitz specialist rather than a full-time starter for the Miami Dolphins.
That may give an edge for bets on Verse, a projected starting linebacker for the Rams, and Detroit Lions first-rounder Terrion Arnold, who is in line to start at cornerback from the jump.
When does the NFL season start?
The 2024 NFL season opens on Thursday, Sept. 5, with a rematch of last season's AFC championship game, as the Kansas City Chiefs welcome the Baltimore Ravens to Arrowhead Stadium.
