The Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams will face off for the second time this season in Monday's lone wild-card round matchup.

Monday's clash will be the 49th time the two teams have met, dating back to their first matchup in 1961. It's also the eighth time they're meeting in the playoffs, which ties it for the third-most frequent playoff matchup in NFL history.

For just the second time in NFL history, a playoff game is on the move. With deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area, the league is opting for safety first to wrap up wild-card weekend.

The Rams will not have true home-field advantage on Monday night, as the NFL relocated their playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

Minnesota, the NFC's No. 5 seed, will be the road team for the wild-card round after losing its Week 18 game to the Detroit Lions. A Vikings win on the road on Sunday night would have been enough to clinch the NFC North crown and No. 1 seed in the conference, but their loss means they start their playoff run on the road instead of with a first-round bye.

Los Angeles, which holds the No. 4 seed after winning the NFC West, came out on top in the last meeting between these two teams during Week 8 of the regular season. The Rams' 30-20 victory featured a 106-yard performance from receiver Puka Nacua and two touchdowns for fellow wideout Demarcus Robinson.

Here's what to know about Monday's wild-card clash:

Rams vs. Vikings predictions

  • Vikings 27, Rams 20

The Vikings will travel for a second matchup with the Rams this season. Los Angeles came away with the 30-20 victory back in Week 8 and ended up being the only team besides the Lions to hand Minnesota a loss this year.

Coincidentally, this wild-card round clash is also the second time this season that the Vikings will face the Rams in Los Angeles after losing to the Lions one week earlier.

These two teams are evenly matched according to efficiency metrics over the last four weeks. Both are ranked closely in their EPA per play and success rate allowed on defense, and the same similarities exist on the offensive side.

Spurred on by their earlier regular-season loss and the possibility of a rematch with the Lions in the divisional round, the Vikings will be playing with a chip on their shoulder in this wild-card clash.
