Not even six months after trading for Davante Adams, the New York Jets are set to move on.

The Jets announced on Tuesday that they've released the star receiver.

Adams arrived via trade from the Las Vegas Raiders in October, less than 24 hours after the Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills in Week 6 to drop to 2-4. It was also just a week removed from the team's decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh.

New York made the move anyway, looking to steady what was a sinking ship in 2024. The Jets parted with a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 draft for the receiver's services, which will remain the case after none of those conditions were met.

It was a trade that felt like a long time coming, reuniting Adams with Aaron Rodgers. The longtime teammates and best friends had seemingly been angling for the move ever since Rodgers shook free out of Green Bay.

Adams and Rodgers were up to their usual antics with the Jets, looking at times like the duo that tormented defenses for years with the Packers.

He played in just 11 games with the Jets, totaling 67 catches, 857 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned a whopping 114 targets over that span, finishing second on the team to just Garrett Wilson, who saw 154 over 17 games. That preference of Adams by Rodgers created somewhat of a mess in the locker room, frustrating Wilson at times.

The Jets will save $29.9 million against the salary cap by releasing Adams, who had no guaranteed money left on his deal.

While his next landing spot is unknown, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported that Adams would like to go back to the West Coast.
