Laremy Tunsil trade details: Texans deal star LT to Commanders for draft picks

Laremy Tunsil has been traded to the Washington Commanders, according to reports.
A person close to the situation confirmed Tunsil's trade to the Commanders to Paste BN Sports' Tyler Dragon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter.
The Houston Texans, who were facing some salary cap problems this offseason, agreed to deal Tunsil to the nation's capital in exchange for a package of draft picks.
It's a trade that solidifes the Commanders' offensive line going into 2025 and beyond, while opening up a massive hole for the Texans up front. Protecting C.J. Stroud was an issue in 2024 and now they'll have to worry about who will protect the young quarterback's blindside.
Here's a look at what the Commanders parted with to acquire Tunsil from the Texans.
Laremy Tunsil trade details
- Washington Commanders receive: Laremy Tunsil, 2025 fourth round pick
- Houston Texans receive: 2025 third- and seventh-round picks, second- and fourth-round picks in 2026
Tunsil's career has rebounded nicely after the tackle plummeted down the draft board in 2016, dropping out of the top-10 after a video of him wearing a gas mask smoking marijuana appeared online. He ended up being taken by the Miami Dolphins and was later traded to the Texans ahead of the 2019 season.
He's been durable for an offensive lineman, only missing more than three games in a season one time during what is now a nine-year career.
The 30-year-old has made the Pro Bowl five times in the last six seasons.
Tunsil carries a cap hit of $21.35 million for 2025 and 2026, the final two years of the three-year, $75 million deal he signed with the Texans.
It's just the latest move for a Commanders team that is going all-in after reaching the NFC championship game in 2024. They've already traded for Deebo Samuel while looking to add more in free agency.
For the Texans, it's unclear where they'll go from here with no clear replacement available, especially considering their offensive line was a problem last season.
Houston saves $13.85 million on the salary cap for 2025, while carrying a dead cap hit of $15 million, if the deal is finalized prior to June 1, per OverTheCap.
